When the Lord guided me into my job at Chipotle, I wasn’t thrilled to be working in a restaurant again, with high schooler’ s. But on my first two shifts – I was talking about the Lord. I began speaking to them about my beliefs. The door was wide open to share my experiences of the last year, and why I had moved to Georgia. I was thrilled, I was surprised how easy it was to share.

In the back of Chipotle, we hook up someone’s phone to a speaker and listen to music. We typically listen to top hits music, Latino music, rap, and rock. My coworkers sing, dance, and laugh with the music. Last week like clockwork, a guy plugged his phone into the speaker and turned on their Pandora radio. The first song that played was “Thnks fr th Mmrs” by Fall Out Boy, then a couple of songs later, Relient K’s song “I so hate consequences” began to play. A few of us began to sing. Before we knew it, Chris Tomlin began to play. My roommate Andrea (who also works at Chipotle), excitedly yells “is this Chris Tomlin?!”

I was shocked, that a Christian song would be playing in a restaurant kitchen. As the night continued, more and more Christian songs were played. In the seven years that I’ve worked in a restaurant, I’ve never once heard Christian music being played. I have always felt that the kitchen is a place that is not filled with the Lord. Boy was I wrong.

From the music playing, Andrea and I were able to continue conversations with believers in the restaurant. But even more, we were able show an atheist the joy that can come from the Lord through music.

I really believe that the Lord has led us to Chipotle to bring Jesus to His people. He wants us to love our coworkers and the people around us. To have gentle conversations with people around us, that can be pointed back to Him.
